Heritage Hills, The Woodlands: Concrete Plank Walk + Layered Shade Garden

A big wooded lot on a cul-de-sac, tied together with a hand-formed concrete plank walkway that steps through the lawn from the drive to the back. Around it we layered gardens for every light: a river pebble garden of low mounding plants, silver artemisia borders along the house, and deep shade beds under the existing trees.

A quarried limestone block raised bed anchors the gravel path, and climbing roses are espaliered on wires along the cedar fence so the whole length blooms pink in spring.

Plants include Fantasy crepe myrtles, Ducher roses, upright and prostrate cephalotaxus, white pentas, wire vine, flapjacks, artemisia, stemodia, ponyfoot, Luzon and Lord Byron viburnum, Skinner's banana shrub, giant ligularia, curcuma gingers, assorted ferns, indigofera, hardy bromeliads, white beautyberry and hardy ground orchids.
